Package Overview

Coronary Angiography

Coronary angiography, also called a coronary angiogram or cardiac catheterization, is a diagnostic procedure used to examine the blood vessels that supply the heart. It helps cardiologists identify narrowed or blocked coronary arteries and understand how well blood is flowing to the heart muscle.

During the procedure, a thin catheter is carefully guided through an artery, commonly from the wrist or groin, toward the heart. A contrast agent is then injected, allowing detailed X-ray images of the coronary arteries to be taken. The procedure usually takes around 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the individual case.

When Is Coronary Angiography Recommended?

A cardiologist may recommend a coronary angiogram when symptoms, ECG results, stress tests, or other investigations suggest possible coronary artery disease. It can help determine whether further treatment, such as coronary angioplasty or stent placement, may be appropriate.

Preparation and Recovery

Before the procedure, your medical history, allergies, medicines, and general health are reviewed. Depending on your condition and the type of procedure, you may be advised to avoid food or drinks for a specified period. Afterward, the catheter site is monitored for bleeding, and many patients can return home the same day. Rest and avoiding strenuous activity for a few days may be recommended.
