VMAT / RapidArc Radiation Therapy is an advanced form of external beam radiation therapy designed to deliver radiation precisely to a tumour while helping limit exposure to nearby healthy tissues.
Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) delivers radiation continuously as the treatment machine rotates around the patient. RapidArc is a commonly used technology associated with fast, image-guided radiation delivery.
Treatment planning uses detailed imaging and computer-assisted calculations to shape the radiation dose according to the size, location, and characteristics of the tumour.
How VMAT / RapidArc Works
Before treatment, the radiation oncology team creates an individualized treatment plan. During each session, the machine adjusts radiation intensity and delivery while rotating around the patient.
