Rhinoplasty, commonly known as nose surgery or a nose job, is a surgical procedure designed to reshape the nose and improve its proportion with the rest of the face. It may be considered for cosmetic concerns such as a nasal hump, wide or uneven nose, bulbous or drooping tip, nostril shape, or nasal asymmetry. Rhinoplasty can also address certain structural problems that affect breathing.
What Does Rhinoplasty Involve?
During a rhinoplasty procedure, the surgeon carefully modifies the underlying bone and cartilage to achieve the planned shape and structure. Depending on the individual case, an open or closed surgical approach may be used. If a deviated septum contributes to breathing difficulties, septal correction may sometimes be performed along with rhinoplasty.
Recovery and Results
Swelling and bruising are common during the early recovery period. A nasal splint may be used to support the nose during initial healing. Although noticeable improvement develops gradually, swelling can continue to settle for several months, and the final nasal contour may take up to a year to fully refine.
