LASIK / Laser Vision Correction is a refractive eye procedure designed to reduce dependence on glasses or contact lenses by reshaping the cornea with a laser. It may be considered for suitable patients with common refractive errors such as myopia (short-sightedness), hyperopia (long-sightedness), and astigmatism.
How LASIK Works
Before treatment, an ophthalmologist performs a detailed eye examination to assess corneal thickness, eye health, refractive error, tear-film condition, and other factors that determine whether LASIK eye surgery is appropriate. During the procedure, precise laser technology reshapes the cornea so that incoming light can focus more accurately on the retina.
Recovery and Aftercare
Vision may initially be hazy or fluctuate following surgery and generally stabilizes progressively during recovery. Patients should use prescribed eye drops, avoid rubbing their eyes, attend follow-up examinations, and follow their surgeon's activity restrictions. Some people may still require glasses or experience symptoms such as dry eyes, glare, halos, or visual disturbances after LASIK.
