Ovarian Cyst Treatment
Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs that develop in or on an ovary. Many cysts are harmless and disappear naturally without treatment. However, larger, persistent, complex, or symptomatic cysts may require medical evaluation and treatment.
Diagnosis and Evaluation
Treatment begins with understanding the cyst's size, appearance, symptoms, and the patient's age and menopausal status. A pelvic ultrasound is commonly used to assess the cyst. Depending on the findings, your gynaecologist may recommend follow-up scans or additional tests.
Ovarian Cyst Treatment Options
When appropriate, watchful waiting with repeat ultrasound monitoring may be recommended because many ovarian cysts resolve on their own. If a cyst is large, persistent, causes significant symptoms, or has concerning features, ovarian cyst removal surgery may be considered. Minimally invasive laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy is commonly used for suitable benign cysts, while open surgery may be required in selected cases.
